For fluffy breeds like Samoyeds or Pomeranians, use feathery strokes at the body edges to suggest soft fur instead of a hard outline. For short-haired breeds like Boxers, use smooth broad strokes and focus shading on the muscular contours.

Print on cardstock if you're using markers for fur blending, regular paper absorbs too much ink too fast and you lose control of where the color goes.
